Steve Carlton – affectionately known as Lefty – was one of the most dominant pitchers in the history of the Philadelphia Phillies. He played for the club from 1972 to 1986 and amassed a wealth of distinctions, including a World Series championship in 1980, 7 All-Star Game nominations, 4 Cy Young Awards, a Triple Crown, and a Gold Glove Award. He also competed with baseballs greats Nolan Ryan and Gaylord Perry in the early 1980s for the all-time strikeout record, finishing just short of 4,000 at the end of his Phillies career. His #32 was retired by the Phillies organization in 1989 in recognition of his stellar career, and he was immortalized in the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1994. This photo has been authenticated by JSA.
